INSTRUMENTAL PEDAGOGY FOR CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATORS

This course is intended as preparation for choral music education majors who may be required to instruct instrumental ensembles and/or lessons as part of their teaching assignment as per the comprehensive Wisconsin music educator license.. Students will learn about the anatomical, physiological and acoustic elements of playing and teaching brass, percussion, string and woodwind instruments in order to gain a working knowledge of the mechanics of performance. Emphasis is placed on application of pedagogy to instrumental ensemble and private lesson instruction, and on providing students with the tools and resources to aid them in their teaching career. PREREQ: ADMISSION INTO THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIES, CUMULATIVE GPA OF 2.75 OR HIGHER, AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF MUSED 160
