SONOGRAPHY PRINCIPLES & INSTRUMENTATION

Catalog description
This course imparts to students the fundamental principles of ultrasound physics and instrumentation. Students first learn principles of sound generation and propagation, sound interaction with tissue, the instrumentation utilized to produce and detect diagnostic medical ultrasound, systems operation, modes of pulsed-wave and continuous wave propagation, transducer technology, image storage, retrieval and sharing systems. Thereafter, students receive instruction on Doppler instrumentation (color, spectral, and power), hemodynamics, artifacts, quality assurance, bio-effects and safety, and emerging technologies. PREREQ: ACCEPTED INTO MEDICAL SCIENCES - DIAGNOSTIC SONOGRAPHY EMPHASIS
