Catalog description

This graduate course develops the skills, procedures, and strategies for teaching social studies, including the integration of the arts and creativity. It is designed to deepen understanding of the nature and essential content areas of social studies, as well as the role of inquiry and arts integration in teaching the subject. Additionally, the course emphasizes an integrative approach to social studies that crosses disciplinary boundaries, connects past struggles to present issues, draws from various art forms, primary sources, and students' own lives, and requires the effective use of reading, writing, and technology skills. PREREQ: MUST BE ADMITTED TO ELEMENTARY MIDDLE EDUCATION MSE
