Catalog description

This course examines the history, philosophy, and social foundations of American public education while fostering the development of a professional educator identity. Emphasis is placed on analyzing personal and institutional beliefs, values, and assumptions that influence teaching practice and relationships with students. The course also explores contemporary conceptions and critiques of the public purposes of education in our society. A minimum grade of B in this course is required for all education majors.
