Cultural Influences on Child & Adolescent Development

Catalog description

This course provides an overview of child and adolescent development from a cross-cultural perspective. Drawing on psychological theory and cross-cultural research, students will examine the role of culture on major child and adolescent developmental topics. Topics include cultural influence on emotion, cognition, language, family and peer relationships, academic achievement, socialization, and identity development. Through readings, discussions, and applied projects, students will develop a culturally informed understanding of human development and consider the implications for research, policy, and practice in psychology and related fields. Meets the Diverse Perspectives requirement for the Psychology major.
