PHYS 105
Light and Sound - Physics in the Arts
University of Wisconsin-Superior · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
Many of the Fine Arts (music, painting, dance, photography, etc) depend on our human perception of light and sound. While our experience of light and sound are wildly different, the underlying physics is the same - they are both waves. This is a laboratory and experience-based course with applications such as cameras, color mixing, musical instruments, and musical scales. The goal is to gain a greater understanding of light and sound to appreciate how they influence and enrich our Art and our lives. (Lecture three hours, Laboratory two hours).
