Medical Ethnobotany

Catalog description

Ethnobotany is the study of how people and cultures use plants. This course will survey the history, ethics, and current state of the field, as well as explore commonly used, locally used, or impactful plants. Particular emphasis will be given to medicinal plants, and traditional plant medicine’s relationship with modern pharmaceutical medicine. Classes will include traditional lecture, hands-on activities, and discussion. Students will complete an original research project in the lab portion of the course.(Lecture 3 hours, Lab 2 hours)
