Addresses a misconception in American society of what constitutes a gang. Provides a more systematic investigation of gangs regarding the history of gangs, types of gangs, membership patterns, recruiting patterns, female participation, etc. Disentangles the stereotypes of gangs from the reality. Prerequisite: take CJR 103
