Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten Curriculum and Introduction to Early Childhood Methods

Catalog description

This course explores the theory and background for using developmentally appropriate practices with early childhood students. Teacher candidates learn to develop curriculum for early childhood students. This includes the teaching of critical thinking and problem solving skills, learning effective methods, exploring materials to develop concepts, skills and values in early childhood settings, including 4-K and Kindergarten and learning how to plan developmentally appropriate activities in various content areas. The preparation of the learning environment, classroom organization and management, the teacher's role, and current practices are critically examined. This course includes a required field experience component. Prerequisites: Adm.to MSE program; co-enrollment in ED 701 and 706
