Middle School Mathematics Methods

Catalog description

This course is designed to prepare prospective mathematics teachers to plan, implement, and evaluate learning units for middle school mathematics students. These activities will reflect the recommendations presented in the Common Core State Standards - Content & Practice, NCTM Standards - Content & Process, and the NCTM Principles to Actions. Prospective mathematics teachers will learn to use various questioning techniques, develop pedagogical content knowledge, and integrate appropriate visuals, manipulatives, and technology when teaching middle school mathematical concepts. Field Experience required (35 hours). Prerequisites: This course is a portion of the middle school mathematics block. Concurrent enrollment in Math 304 and TED 457. Completion of TED 211/212 or TED 250. (F)
