Techniques in High School Social Studies

Catalog description
This is primarily an experiential course where students design lessons as well as practice and reflect on strategies and methods for teaching social studies curricula at the high school level. Students will also examine issues of interdisciplinary curriculum design and the philosophical/ historical basis of social studies as a discipline. Students will explore the fundamental aspects of culturally relevant teaching and its importance for diverse learners. Finally, they will have an opportunity to experiment with materials and resources including the use of technology used in teaching social studies. Field experience required (25 hours). Prerequisite: This course is a portion of the high school social studies methods block. Concurrent enrollment in TED 463 and TED 468. Admission into TED or EPP admission Tier II.
