Early Childhood Methods and Curriculum

Catalog description

This course explores the theory and background for using developmentally appropriate practices with early childhood students. Teacher candidates learn to develop curriculum for early childhood students. This includes the teaching of critical thinking and problem solving skills, learning effective methods, exploring materials to develop concepts, skills and values in early childhood settings, including pre-k and Kindergarten and learning how to plan developmentally appropriate activities in various content areas. The preparation of the learning environment, classroom organization and management, the teacher's role, and current practices are critically examined. This course includes a required field experience component. Field experience required: (12-15 hours). Prerequisites: TED 250, admission to Tier 1; co-requisite TED 309 (F, Sp). Taken concurrently with TED 309. Instructor/chair consent is required. (F, Sp, SS, W)
