Catalog description

This course provides an understanding of stress and strain in structures and the ability to analyze and design such structures. Topics include loading and deformation, normal and shear stresses and strains, material behavior, torsion, deflection of beams, combined loadings, Mohr's circle, statically determinate and indeterminate beams and shafts, and buckling of columns. Mechanics of Materials is also called Deformable Bodies. Prerequisites: PHYS 131 and 250, MATH 166. Co- or prerequisite MATH 167. (Sp)
