Human Nature, Ethics and the Natural World

This course examine various conceptions of human nature as articulated, both, by the religious texts such as the Upanishads, the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, or by thinkers past and present, such as, Confucius, Plato, Hobbes, Darwin, Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, Jung, Sarte, Skinner, and Wilson. Furthermore, we explore the possible ethical implications of the above views. A topic of particular interest is: What do these theories of human nature have to say about our link to nature; and what are their ethical ramifications? (As offered)
