Catalog description

An introduction to study of Japanese. Basic vocabulary, conversation, and cultural material. Students will learn Japanese characters (Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji), grammar, and pronunciation along with reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while at the same time exploring Japanese culture. 43 Chinese characters (kanji) will be introduced. This course is designed to enable students to comprehend, interpret, and analyze oral, written, aural, and visual communication at a basic level. The classes are conducted primarily in Japanese. In order to continue on to JAPN102, it is highly recommended to receive C- or higher grade in JAPN101. (F)
