Energy for a Sustainable Society

Catalog description

This course provides students an introductory overview of the current and future energy resources and technologies to meet the rapidly growing energy demand of the 21st century in a sustainable manner-the vital issue for humanity. The course explores energy resource options (fossil-fuel, nuclear, and renewable energy sources) and technologies for achieving sustainability on local, national, and global scales. Carbon sequestration and other emerging clean energy technologies are also discussed. The course also addresses the economic, political, technological and social challenges in transitioning from unsustainable to sustainable energy practices. Social and cultural factors of sustainable energy development are discussed. Prerequisites: None (As offered)
