Catalog description

The course focuses on classic and contemporary multiethnic literature of all genres to support strategy-based reading instruction in grades 6 through 12. Students explore adolescents¿ reading preferences as they develop criteria for selecting and evaluating books and teaching materials. Students explore best practices for literacy instruction and assessment, reading comprehension and the application of reader-response theory and literary theory. Field placement requirement: 15 hours. Prerequisite: Junior standing or consent of instructor. (F or Sp)
