Forage Crop Production

Catalog description

This course covers the theory and cultural practices of forage crop production. Major emphasis is given to forage production in the Upper Midwest. Students are also introduced to species and practices utilized in other soil and climatic environments. Species characteristics, adaptation, growth and management requirements of the major forage legumes, and grasses are discussed. Management practices regarding species and cultivar selection; establishment; fertility; insect, disease, and weed control; quality; winter survival, harvesting; and storage are examined in detail. Prerequisites: PLSC 161 or consent of instructor. (F,Sp)
