Catalog description
This course offers a critical examination of communication and popular culture in the United States, with a focus on media analysis. Through the lens of relevant theories, we will analyze a wide range of cultural artifacts, from mainstream media to subcultural expressions. We will pay particular attention to the ways in which popular culture both influences and is influenced by broader social, political, economic, and cultural forces. This course will equip students with the skills necessary to critically analyze and evaluate media texts and industries. Prerequisites: NONE Offering Term(s): As Offered
