Catalog description

The focus of this course is applied nutrient metabolism, including the digestion, flow, metabolism, and utilization of feed nutrients in the digestive systems and tissues of monogastric and ruminant farm animals. Nutrient metabolism is approached at one level up from cellular metabolism. Physiological and biochemical processes are described and integrated on a whole animal basis to help students develop a fundamental, yet comprehensive understanding of how animals use carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, and vitamins for maintenance and production. Prerequisites: AGBI 251 or CHEM 360 or 361; and ANSC 232 (F, W, Sp, SS).
