Catalog description
Students will study the principles of inheritance outlined by Mendel and how these principles align with meiosis. Chromosomal and nucleic acid structure will be examined, as will the processes of DNA replication, transcription, and translation. Population genetics will be explored. Additional topics will include hybrid vigor, calculation of coefficient of relationship, and application of genomics and reproductive technologies to improve selection and mating. These genetic principles will be applied to domesticated animal populations. Prerequisites: ANSC 111, 121, 150, 151, 167, DASC 106, PLSC 161, BIOL 150, or BIOL 160 (F, Sp)
