Catalog description

This course will examine the roles of companion animals in Western culture and the environment, reflecting the extent to which they have been integrated into our society. We will explore the connection of the human-animal bond, as well as the striking inconsistencies in the treatment of companion animals. Topics include: the history of companion animals and evolution of the companion animal economy; companion animal protection and welfare, shelters and rescues; companion animal ethics and issues, service dogs and others. Prerequisites: ANSC 121 (F, Sp)
