Catalog description

A study of tonal music theory using piano keyboard and MIDI music technology applications. Students study concepts in music theory including melodic structures, texture, 16th century 2 voice counterpoint, 18th century 4 voice counterpoint, harmonic rhythm, voice leading in 7th chords, modulation, and secondary dominant and leading tone chords. Students will apply the above concepts in musical composition and analysis, and demonstrate performance of musical structures on the piano keyboard. Components: Class Prereqs/Coreqs: P: MUSIC 1730 and MUSIC 1530 with a grade of "C" or better; C: MUSIC 1630 Typically Offered: Spring
