Health Topics in Social Wellness and Responsibility

Catalog description

This course explores the intersection of social wellness, emotional intelligence, and personal responsibility in the context of health education, with a dedicated focus on human sexuality. Through a skills-based lens, students will engage in experiential learning designed to foster inclusive, developmentally appropriate instruction grounded in national and state health education standards. Topics include personal and social identity, emotional regulation, teacher-student relationships, social-emotional learning (SEL) competencies, and trauma-informed practices. A major component of this courses includes developing health literacy and instructional confidence related to sexuality education, including curriculum design, family communication, and navigating controversy. Students will participate in reflective self-assessments, collaborative teaching projects, and practice based learning that emphasize responsible decision-making, equity, and advocacy in the K-12 health education setting.
