Catalog description
A survey of Shakespeare's most popular comedies, tragedies, and histories as texts, stage productions, and film adaptations. Course texts might include anything from a filmed traditional production at Shakespeare's Globe to teen movies like She's the Man or 10 Things I Hate About You. Special attention will be paid to how adaptations either engage with or modernize Shakespeare's language, settings, and themes, as well as how different interpretations incorporate cultural discourses such as gender, race, class, and sexuality.
