An introduction to sociolinguistics, the study of language in its social context. This course covers a wide range of topics, including dialects, stylistic variation, language and gender, language contact, language change, world Englishes, language planning, language and power, and the applications of sociolinguistics, to provide students with an understanding of the interaction between language and society.
