The first course in a two-semester sequence, English 1040 is designed to provide students with reading, writing, and critical thinking skills necessary to produce effective college-level expository writing. Upon completion of English 1040, students are prepared to take English 1230, the second course in the first-year writing sequence. English 1040 is equivalent to English 1130, with one additional credit for additional academic support. Students are placed in this course according to current state placement policy. Components: Laboratory, Class Prereqs/Coreqs: P: Wisconsin English Placement Test score below 11 Typically Offered: Fall - Spring - Summer
