Advanced Throwing is a course tailored to the direction and interest of the student. It requires student independence and self-motivation. Emphasis is on the continuing development of effective visual expression through the potter's wheel. The student is expected to engage in advanced study of ceramic concepts, craftsmanship, creative processes, and effective expression of aesthetic ideas. This course is designed to establish a structure within which ceramic majors may begin to develop their own individualized program of studio research that will ultimately lead them to the creation of a body of work that has breadth and depth. This course will focus on professional practices that will help the student develop a professional working studio, enhance their portfolio for graduate studies, for teaching positions, commissions, gallery or juried shows or professional opportunities for artists.
