Catalog description

The course is designed in two parts. Part I explores the fundamental physics and material properties which govern the production and behavior of materials used in the electronics industry. Topics include the governing physics and production methods of PNP/NPN junctions in transistors, determination and utilization of material properties like conductivity, dielectric strength, and superconductivity, and methods for band gap tuning in silicon and carbon-based substrates. Part II explores the utility of simulation for estimation of material properties in the form of molecular dynamics and calculation of phase diagrams (CALPHAD) and how these methods can be properly applied in industry. Components: Class, Laboratory Prereqs/Coreqs: P: AETM 3150 or AETM 3940 or AETM 3230 Typically Offered: Spring - even year
