Catalog description

The course is designed to provide students with a strong foundation of material science topics in heat and mass transport as related to their use in manufacturing and industry. Concepts covered include introductory thermodynamics, diffusion processes, operation and/or data analysis of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) equipment, and the related thermal and kinetic properties which define and govern a material’s use. These topics will be used for more advanced explorations into phase transformations, use of phase diagrams, and other related topics under the lens of current industrial applications in metals, plastics, and composites manufacturing. Components: Laboratory, Class Prereqs/Coreqs: P or C: AETM 3150 or AETM 3940 Typically Offered: Spring - odd year
