Catalog description
This course covers the application of principles studied in fundamental or general physics to various areas of research and technology at the forefront of modern physical science and engineering. Topics include special relativity, origins of quantum mechanics, atomic spectroscopy, nuclear structure, and nuclear reactions. Select topics in heat, the laws of thermodynamics, kinetic theory, molecular spectroscopy, band theory of solids, semiconductors, and superconductors may also be included. Prerequisite: PHY 305 ; MTH 208 . Offered Spring.
