Catalog description

In this course, students examine music as an expression of humanity and explore big questions like "what is good music?" Students cultivate the habits of analytical, open-minded listening for life-long enjoyment and appreciation of music. Topics include fundamental music terminology, engaged listening, the relationship between culture and music, and the various purposes of music. This course addresses Western art music, non-Western music, music of the African diaspora, and popular music. Not applicable to major or minor. CGER HA-AA Humanities & Arts: Arts & Aesthetics. Lect. 1, Disc. 1. Prerequisite: Not open to students with credit in MUS 110. Offered Fall, Spring.
