Catalog description

This course introduces students to the formulation, computer implementation, and analysis of numerical solutions of problems in science and engineering. Emphasis on programming fundamentals for numerical modeling, analysis, and visualization. Specific topics include root finding methods; optimization, including linear programming; systems of equations; curve fitting and interpolation; eigenvalues and singular values; and numerical calculus. Optional topics may include Markov chains and machine learning. Prerequisite: grade of "C" or better in MTH 308 , CS 115 or CS 120 . Offered Spring.
