Advanced Strength and Conditioning Methods

Catalog description
This course provides an in-depth exploration of the theory, application, and practical methods essential to the field of strength and conditioning. Students develop technical proficiency in foundational and Olympic lifts, warm-up and activation strategies, plyometrics, speed development, and energy system training. Emphasis is placed on integrating scientific principles into practical program design through the application of biomechanical concepts, SAID and GAS models, and evidence-based training methodologies. Throughout the course, students practice coaching and instructional progressions; identify and correct movement errors; and enhance their communication, leadership, and professionalism in the weight room. Advanced topics include manipulating training variables, incorporating periodization strategies, designing sport-specific resistance and conditioning programs, and utilizing Excel-based tools for program organization. Through hands-on learning, peer-led sessions, and the development of a comprehensive annual training plan, students build the skills and competencies necessary to improve movement efficiency, strength, power, and athletic performance. This course prepares students for professional roles in exercise science, coaching, and sports performance. Lect. 2, Lab. 2. Prerequisite: ESS 411 . Offered Fall, Spring.
