Lying and Deception in Human Interaction

Catalog description

This course is an in-depth exploration of deception and lying in human interaction, grounded in communication theory and research. This course examines forms of deceptive communication and their causes and consequences in a wide range of contexts including romantic relationships, digital and mediated environments, criminal justice, advertising, mass media, and politics. Particular attention is given to the opportunities, limitations, and pitfalls involved in assessing potentially deceptive behavior. Prerequisite: CST 110 . Offered Alternate Years.
