Communication and Public Memory

Catalog description

This course explores the concept of public memory and its role in our experiences of places, events, and eras. Students explore the communicative foundations of individual, collective, and public memory by engaging the literature of rhetorical memory studies. In doing so, students analyze how these different forms of memory are malleable and therefore have the potential to sustain us, direct us, lead us astray, and/or even promote conflict. Students are encouraged to engage the local landscapes of the Midwest as we explore the rich relations between rhetoric, memory, and place. Prerequisite: CST 110 . Offered Alternate Years.
