Catalog description

This course comprises four broad themes: the evolutionary history and trajectory of major lineages of plants, worldwide diversity within these groups, the scientific tools and questions that inform this knowledge, and a survey of the vascular flora of Wisconsin. Principles of phylogenetic biology, plant taxonomy, evolution of plant diversity, as well as current research areas are covered. Lab activities and required field trips focus on practical identification. This course is taught largely at an undergraduate level. Graduate students have additional course requirements/expectations. Lect. 1, Lab 4. Prerequisite: BIO 203 ; junior standing. Offered Spring.
