This course provides an introductory experience to a studio-based approach to visual art in the three-dimensional realm. Students apply design elements and principles to projects and experiences as they occur in the physical world. Concentration will focus on expanding visual vocabulary through the design and development of traditional and experimental blacksmithing techniques. The course will explore conceptual problem solving, introductory forging and fabrication techniques and an investigation into the inherent qualities of ferrous materials. Hot forging, bending, cutting, welding, finishing, surface enrichment, and traditional joinery will be covered in this course. Lect. 2, Studio 4. Offered Fall, Spring.
