Catalog description

This is an introductory course focusing on the basic principles of athletic training (sports medicine). Emphasis will be placed on the role of the athletic trainer in regards to injury prevention, health/injury assessment, and management/rehabilitation of sports related injuries. Content includes history of athletic training, athletic training room procedures, physiology of healing, acute emergency management, and medical referral process. Students learn techniques related to taping, wrapping, splinting, ambulatory aides, and modalities applied to the healing process. P: HUM BIOL 102 with a grade of C or better OR BIOLOGY 201 / 202 with a grade of C or better. Fall and Spring.
