Introduction to Social Justice

Catalog description

This course introduces students to the concept of social justice and the complexities that arise from defining it and advocating for it. This course highlights both historical origins and contemporary perspectives on the concept of social justice as well as the ways that activists and thinkers, past and present, have organized to create a more democratic and equitable society around the categories of race, gender, class, and sexual orientation/identity. In this course students will be introduced to the practical considerations of organizing to create social justice in their community and encouraged to engage in civic action. Fall and Spring.
