Catalog description

Supervised practical experience in the collection, identification and curation of aquatic macroinvertebrates, with a focus on aquatic insects as used for freshwater biomonitoring. Students will conduct field sampling in regional freshwater ecosystems, process and identify specimens in the laboratory and participate in the curation of both teaching and reference collections. Weekly discussions will expose students to emerging techniques and research in aquatic entomology, biomonitoring and freshwater ecology. This course prepares students for careers in environmental consulting, government agencies, and academic research. P: Jr Standing Fall Only.
