Catalog description

An upper-level survey of the Precolumbian art of Mexico and Central America. The course will examine the art and culture of the major civilizations in the region including the Olmec, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, Maya, Toltec, Mexica (Aztec), and the West Coast chiefdoms. While form and technique will be covered, the principal emphasis will be upon understanding the differing contexts (both religious and secular) in which art was created in this region. REC: ART 102 Spring Even.
