Marine Biology

Catalog description

This course emphasizes evolutionary adaptations to the marine environment and interactions among marine organisms with their habitats. Communities studied include coral reefs, deep sea benthos, plankton, nekton, and intertidal assemblages. We rely heavily upon activities and discussion of the primary literature to make inferences about fundamental biological processes within the context of life in marine environments. Students will also be asked to consider the biological basis of major issues in marine conservation.
