Catalog description
This advanced CNC machining course immerses students in the operation of collaborative, semi-automated multi-machine work cells, preparing them for high-performance roles in smart manufacturing environments. Learners will interface CNC machines with assistive technologies such as robotic tending systems, collaborative robots, and machine add-ons to execute complex, multi-process operations. Emphasis is placed on configuring tooling and workholding, troubleshooting automation systems, and coordinating tasks across multiple machines and technologies. Students will produce precision parts with varied geometries using advanced CNC techniques and equipment, while working with materials beyond traditional aluminum—including steel, stainless steel, Inconel, and titanium. Integrated projects simulate real-world manufacturing workflows, requiring students to follow professional documentation, complete full-cycle operations, and apply inspection techniques using both standard and advanced metrology tools. The course also incorporates GD&T principles and cost-efficiency strategies to ensure quality and optimize production.
