Catalog description

This course provides an in-depth study of heavy equipment power train systems with emphasis on driveshaft construction, braking theory, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Students will examine the design, function, and operation of driveshafts, universal joints, and related components, along with the fundamental principles of hydraulic and pneumatic braking systems. Instruction highlights industry-standard maintenance practices that extend component life and ensure safe equipment operation. Students will also learn to interpret power train schematics and flow diagrams, applying these skills to diagnose system malfunctions and conduct failure analysis. Through hands-on training, students will develop the ability to perform operational checks, identify root causes of failures, and recommend corrective procedures using manufacturer service information and technical manuals .
