This course provides a comprehensive study of heavy equipment electrical systems, focusing on theory, operation, and hands-on diagnostics. Students will build foundational knowledge in atomic structure, electron theory, conductors, magnetism, and storage batteries, applying this understanding through the principles of Ohm’s Law in series, parallel, and series-parallel DC circuits. Instruction emphasizes the construction, operation, and troubleshooting of 12/24 volt cranking and charging systems, with attention to proper testing, evaluation, and replacement of key components such as conductors, relays, solenoids, starters, alternators, and regulators. Students will also study lighting, accessory, and control systems, learning to diagnose voltage drops, test and replace components, and ensure system compliance with manufacturer specifications. By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze, test, and repair essential electrical systems used in modern heavy equipment operations.
