Catalog description

This course provides students with essential safety knowledge and orientation to prepare for work in technical and industrial environments, with an emphasis on welding applications. Students will gain broad awareness of occupational hazards and safe work practices through OSHA’s 10-Hour General Industry Outreach training, along with hands-on instruction specific to welding processes and equipment. Topics include hazard recognition, avoidance, control, and prevention, as well as safe setup and operation of welding tools and machinery. Students will be introduced to WSU Tech’s welding lab standards and procedures, comparing them to industry practices. A safety exam must be successfully completed before independent equipment use is permitted. Instruction stresses the importance of meeting occupational safety standards, working under proper supervision, and building safe habits that transfer directly to the workplace. Upon completion, students will have the foundational safety knowledge required for both general industry and welding environments, ensuring they are prepared to enter lab and industry settings responsibly and effectively.
