Catalog description

The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship seminar is designed to help students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences to develop rigorous two-year undergraduate research projects and prepare for a successful PhD journey, from application to the dissertation. The course is taught by the MMUF Faculty Coordinators. The fall course focuses intently on preparing for the Mellon Mays Undergraduate West Coast Regional Conference, the Spring course consists of a series of student-led salons focused on their area of research. Both semesters include workshops and discussions related to academic life and research as practice. Students are expected to consult regularly with their MMUF mentor on their research projects alongside the course. Student work includes a full-length research paper, a smaller journal article, a minimum of three research conference presentations, a CV, and graduate school application essays.
