Catalog description

Muslims have been present in American socio-religious discourse since the first enslaved peoples were brought from Africa. Though internally diverse, Muslim American communities have faced narratives rooted in stereotypes and Islamophobia. This course will use the fields of sociology and religious studies to provide a critical lens to re-evaluate the narratives facing Muslims in the United States. Additionally, the course will use theologies of cultural diversity as a framework for understanding religio-cultural diversity in the United States.
