Neurobiology of Depression.

Catalog description

This course is an advanced seminar designed for students seeking an in-depth exploration of the neurobiological basis of depression. Blending foundational theory with current research, the course examines the diagnostic history of depression, cellular and molecular factors, genetic influences, animal and human models, and the roles of limbic and cortical brain regions in depressive disorders. Additional attention is paid to inflammation, stress, mentalizing, and microbiome effects to offer a wide-ranging neurobiological perspective on depression. Prerequisites: NEUR 241 or BIOL 336 or consent of the instructor.
